honour for Gardeners
GARDEN lovers discovered horicultural
heaven when the University of Reading threw open
its gates to one of its beauty spots. Dazzling
Dahlias and other beautuful blooms were on display
as staff at the Harris Garden held a fundraising
open day. The garden, opened in 1988, showcases
hundreds of species used to teach horticulture
and botany students. Money raised from Sunday's
event will go to charities supported by the national
Yellow Book scheme, which lists all the country's
major gardens open to the public. Senior technician
at the Harris Garden Julia Wesley said the open
day was a success, with almost 200 people coming
through the gates. |
